It looks like the program just likes to clear inherited ACLS and is not prepared for the errno that you get from the incomplete NFS implementation from the Linux NFS server. In other words, you should make a bug report against that install program. –

You cannot disable ACL on a NFS v4 mount. In the end the solution was to disable ACL on the whole file system on the NFS server, which is exported to the clients.
